BASICS (Businesses and Schools Investing in Cooperative Solutions), a program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to fostering a strong partnership between our schools and the business community and communicating career choices to students, parents, and educators, so they can prepare themselves today for the challenges of tomorrow.

Reminder for Career Shadowing Participants

Attention students and host employers who participated in Career Shadowing Week. Please remember to complete your follow up forms. To do this, go to the the Career Shadowing page on this website and then click Career Shadowing Forms. Students should complete The Student Reflection Form online and The Student Evaluation Form online. Host employers should complete The Employer Evaluation Form online. Please complete your forms by Friday, December 10, 2021.

Career Shadowing Week is a Success for Blair Students

Career Shadowing Week concluded Friday, Nov. 19, with over 300 Blair County high school juniors and seniors shadowing their volunteer hosts and learning about possible careers. Leanne Sidney, Co-Chair of the BASICS Career Development Subcommittee, sums up the goal of this experience: "Hopefully we are helping these students affirm or eliminate their career paths." Healthcare Employment Symposium Sets Path Forward

The long-awaited BASICS Healthcare Employment Symposium brought business leaders, educators and HR professionals together for two-days of focus group discussions on November 2nd and 3rd at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Forty-six people participated. The Symposium yielded a great deal of information that will become the basis of a strategy session involving members of the BASICS Steering Committee. While the focus of the event was healthcare employment, there is little doubt that other industry sectors are hoping that BASICS will be willing to plan similar gatherings.

Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Offers Business Volunteer Opportunities

The Blair County Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a success because of the business community's active involvement. Become involved through one of these volunteer opportunities: Business Mentor, Guest Speaker, Field Trip Host. The time commitment is minimal, but the rewards for you and the students are tremendous.
